In 2011, Earth Group donations helped WFP provide nearly 200,000 meals to children in school.
It is The Earth Group’s mandate to give 100% of our net profits from the sale of our water, coffee & tea products, to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to support their global fight against hunger through school meal programmes.
‘Earth Group’s support could not have come at a better time for children in Kenya. We are currently reaching 680,500 children with a daily school meal and all the support counts to make a difference in the lives of school children affected by the worst drought in 60 years. At 13 years old Moses is making big plans. He’s a keen student and dreams of becoming a pilot when he grows up. But Moses’ dream of a bright future is very much reliant on what happens in his present. Together with his sister, mum and dad, Moses’ family relies almost entirely on their livestock as a source of food and income. Unfortunately, after the drought, there isn’t always enough to feed everyone.
This is where WFP is helping. Moses’ local school participates in the WFP school meals programme, guaranteeing Moses at least one meal each day provided he attends school. Moses says, “I enjoy all my lessons but if I didn’t have something to eat at lunchtime I would find it difficult to follow the teacher. Food helps me to concentrate on what they are teaching me.”
