Since our inception in 2005, The Earth Group has helped fund projects in numerous countries worldwide.  Below is a description of these projects.

Cameroon

Through our partners at the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) Earth Group was able to finance a project where stone water filters were developed. The water filters can be purchased on the local market and offers families an affordable way to filter water. The result is that 3,000 people will gain access to clean drinking water.

Ethiopia and Somalia

Thanks in part to a Beach Volleyball tournament in Holland, a water system was developed in Ethiopia with our partners at UNHCR whereby rainwater is collected and filtered. Over the next 20 years, hundreds of people will have access to cleaner water and improved sanitation. Through the funds raised at this event, a project in Somalia was also funded, whereby thousands will have increased access to sanitation and improved living conditions.

Sudan

In Abuda refugee camp in Eastern Sudan, minimum standards of providing more than 20 litres of potable water within a reach of 200 meters for the thousands of people living in this camp were not being met.  With our partners at UNHCR, a network of pipelines, pumps, and wells were installed, which provided access to clean water to thousands of refugees.

Ethiopia

In a UNHCR funded project at Shimelba refugee camp in Ethiopia, Earth Group donations funded the construction of pumping stations, generators, water storage tanks, and sanitation facilities. With the ongoing arrival of asylum seekers from Eritrea, the population of this camp was severely overstretched with thousands of new arrivals.  The construction of these new facilities means that the camp is able to continue providing clean water to the thousands of new refugees who continue to arrive.

Haiti

Following the devastating earthquake that claimed over 220,000 lives and displaced millions in Haiti, The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) was the lead organization providing logistical support and food aid to hundreds of thousands of people. The WP Wagner High School in Canada with the support of Earth Group helped WFP provide 280,000 meals to children in need, through WFP’s school meals programme.

Kenya

In 2011, Earth Group donations helped WFP provide nearly 200,000 meals to children in school.  ‘Earth Group’s support could not have come at a better time for children in Kenya. We are currently reaching 680,500 children with a daily school meal and all the support counts to make a difference in the lives of school children affected by the worst drought in 60 years.  Thank you Earth Group for making a difference!’ Rose Ogola, Public Information Officer, WFP Kenya.
